Our First Alaskan Hike

Well I guess technically it should be called MY first Alaskan hike since Q has been hiking ever since he has been here. Yesterday we drove an hour outside of Fairbanks to ~~the boonies~~ a great hiking site. But seriously, we drove an hour into zero-cell service, no cars on the road zone. We arrived at Angel Rocks and I was a little taken aback at the fact that the entrance sign said we were hiking 3.5 miles in 2-3 hours. See I’m a Runyan Canyon girl. Runyan is what I consider a “hike.” Runyan is 3 miles and it usually takes all of an hour to walk down and hike back up. So I’m standing at the sign thinking why is 3.5 miles about to take 2-3 hours? The hike begin easily. I saw children, dogs, even a woman wearing sandals walking along the trail through the woods. I laughed, “WOW they have that time thing REALLY wrong. That’s probably for inexperienced hikers.” About a half mile in, the trail took a turn for the worst. And by worst I mean it started to head straight up hill. And it didn’t stop for another mile and a half. I was dying. Out of breath, climbing elevation, sweating, can’t talk, dying. And Q hardly broke a sweat. But I must say the view from the top was worth it. Green everywhere you looked. No houses, people, telephone lines, just nature. And then we scurried down the other side of the mountain back to our car. And 2 hours later I was sitting in the car ready for a nap. We are definitely going to come back and now that I know what I am in for I think I’ll be a little more mentally prepared.
