Dinner at Il Sole

For this week’s girls dinner we chose a restaurant all of us have driven by hundreds of times, but never tried, Il Sole. Il Sole is located in West Hollywood on Sunset Blvd. next to Sunset Plaza, a convenient location for all of us.

We made a reservation and there was no wait (always a plus) and the restaurant was busy, but not packed. We had a small table on the outside patio which overlooked busy Sunset Blvd, which was great for people watching. We started out with two baskets of fresh bread which was served with olive oil, roasted tomatoes and garlic and a bottle of wine from their well thought out wine list.

We decided to each get a salad and then share two main dishes.

From top to bottom:

  • Insalata Di Verdura Stagionale Alla Griglia vegetable salad with grilled zucchini, endive, asparagus, corn, eggplant, bell peppers and avocado in a lemon dressing
  • Insalata Di Carciofi artichokes, arugula, and shaved parmesan with olive oil & lemon
  • Il Caprino baby mixed greens, sliced apples and pine nuts with goat cheese crostini in a hazelnut oil and raspberry dressing

All three were delicious and well developed salads, each one with it’s own personality.

For mains we shared the Risotto Ai Funghi Porcini and the Penne Alla Vodka (with no prosciutto since we had a vegetarian at the table). Both were rich and full of flavor and these two dishes filled us up completely. Guess who didn’t order dessert for once in our lives? Yup, we were completely stuffed with dinner!

Overall, the wait staff was great,  the wine list  was excellent and the food was delicious. The menu is on the more expensive side, so I wouldn’t make this a regular in my rotations, but I would definitely come here for a special occasion.
