Farmers’ Market Sunday

 I had never seen this funky veggie before and was instantly intrigued. To cook, you cut it into two or three slices, top with olive oil, salt and pepper and roast (I am going to start with 30 minutes at 350 and see how it goes).

Beautiful, colorful carrots. These are for roasting also (oil, salt, and pepper and then roast in the oven 30 minutes at 350 degrees).

 We use lemons in our sparkling water, we squeeze it over our fish and use them as decoration on our dining room table. We usually buy the ones with some leaves attached for a more colorful centerpiece.

Tomorrow I have a great recipe for Linguine with Clams in a White Wine Sauce made with fresh clams bought from the market. YUM!

I know I just posted about the beauty of the Hollywood Farmers’ Market, but honestly taking photos of fresh fruit and veggies might be my favorite thing to do. It doesn’t even take effort to make them look beautiful. This Sunday my mom and I decided to photograph everything we bought at the market on one table. People are always shocked that we eat fresh fruit/veggies/fish every night of the week. This is the amount of food it takes to feed our household of three, honestly even I was surprised by the sheer quantity of produce we bought.

*I didn’t photograph the fish since that went straight into the fridge…which is currently on the fritz (but that’s a whole nother story).

We have celery, peaches, nectarines, asparagus, corn, eggplant, zucchini, jalapenos, yams, leeks, rocket lettuce, shallots, garlic, butter lettuce, a basil plant, tomatoes, cauliflower, and a watermelon. And that’s just in this snapshot!

There really is nothing as fresh as Farmers’ Market produce, it makes you WANT to healthy.

Avocados for…well everything!

Look at the size of that ginger! We also use a lot of this in our morning juices.

Mushrooms…I’m thinking of making a stir fry. I used to HATE mushrooms, but some how in the past year I can’t live without them. Isn’t it weird how our palates change even in our 20s?

And my favorite purchase of all… fresh strawberries. I usually eat half the carton before we make it to the car.

With all this produce I have LOTS of ideas for recipes to try this week!
